The Astrophysics Center can award master’s degrees. Faculty at the center can also supervise Ph.D. students jointly with National Astronomical Observatories, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NAOC). The Ph.D. degree will be awarded by NAOC.
New graduate students need to take 1-year astronomy courses at either Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Beijing) or University of Technology and Science (Hefei). After that, they will return to Tianjin Normal University for their research.
We strive to maintain high standards for graduate education. Each student will be evaluated every year based on their performance to determine whether they are suitable for further graduate study. For first-year students, the evaluation will be conducted by the graduate committee based on their performance in their courses. For other students, an external committee may be appointed to conduct the evaluation based on the students' research performance and potential. Students who do not pass the evaluation will be asked to leave the program with no degree awarded.
